PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I would like to begin by hoping you all had Happy Holidays and that the New Year will bring you all your hopes and dreams. As the cold sets in, we all have the thoughts of warm weather and spring fire-up.
The New Year brings something new to the organization, a website. I would like to thank Vicky Bloemers, Amy Wahl, and Jamie Stevenson for all of their hard work on this.
The website address is www.whsea.org.
An overview of the website will be presented at the upcoming meeting.
Last week, I was at the NBIC meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. I thought a trip to Arizona this time of year would be a nice time away from our Wisconsin weather. Boy did Mother Nature trick me; Phoenix received snow for the first time in many years while we were there.
The new sub-group that oversees Appendix C discussed and approved the rewrite of Appendix C. This means that the rewrite will be forwarded to the main committee for approval and if approved will be included in the December 2007 release of the NBIC. At the meeting, I will go over the current state of Appendix C.
Currently, Tom Dillon and I are working on plans to have a joint meeting between Minnesota and Wisconsin to discuss the changes and additions to Appendix C and how they will affect us. We are hoping to have a meeting sometime in March in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. We have a lot of details to pull together yet, but I hope to have more information by the upcoming meeting. As more information is available, we will add to our website.
This is a lot planned for the upcoming meeting so I hope to see you all there.
Mike Wahl
WHSEA WEBSITE As Mike stated in his President’s message our club website is up and running. Please take a look.

STEAM SCHOOL At the last meeting, Jeff Bloemers gave an update indicating steam school was held October 6, 7 and 8 at Rock River. School went very well with 49 students attending and great weather for the entire weekend. Enrollment was full by Labor Day with an additional 20 or more wishing to attend.
School enrollment was discussed at the Board of Directors meeting where it was decided that repeat students would no longer attend for free. It was also decided that repeat students could attend at half price if there were openings after 15 days prior to school dates. A repeat student may register prior to the 15 days at full price.
Jeff talked about the various places that the school is advertised and indicated that the Steam School Committee will decide on any further advertising. Jeff indicated that Tom Hall donated his honorarium ($150) to our club in exchange for a letter of confirmation of his assistance with instruction for tax purposes and teacher re-licensure hours. Jeff will take care of getting the letter to Tom.
Pictures of steam school will be submitted to Steam Traction and Engineers & Engines magazines for possible free advertising.
Betsy Lauer received a round of applause for her article about our steam school which gave it a lot of publicity.
