Lodging: There are many hotels in the area/within a half hour. Lodgings Map

Meals: Pease be advised that there is no Friday evening meal. Class usually runs late on Friday evening so please plan accordingly. You are welcome to bring something along or go out after class. There are many places to eat ing the area/within a half hour. Dining Map

Donuts and beverages will be provided in the morning, along with lunch for noon meals. A Saturday evening meal is also provided. Guests are welcome to Saturday dinner at a cost of $10 per person paid at that time.

What to Bring: Work gloves and work clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are needed. Please bring pen and paper for classroom notes. There is usually fellowship/bonfire on Saturday night so don’t forget to bring a chair. You are free to bring whatever else you need that is not provided.

Fee: The class fee is $85, which includes a textbook, the Steam Traction Engineer’s Checklist, the Case Steam Engine Manual, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday, for non- members includes a one-year membership with the Wisconsin Historical Steam Engine Association.
Youth Scholarships are also available.
Dairyland Farm Heritage Preservation Association offers a mentor scholarship for adults wishing to attend with a youth attendee.

Details: The class is open to the first 40 people that register. Preregistration is required. There will be classroom discussion as well as hands-on with full size and model engines steamed up. Class topics include: Steam Theory, Steam Engine Components, Boiler Construction, Operation and Maintenance, Piping, Valves and Accessories, Firing under various loads, Handling and Engine, Boiler Water Treatment, and Emergency Procedures.

This class is not intended to qualify you as an operator, but to give you the basic knowledge of steam engine operation and maintenance.

Students with a completed class certificate can count 16 hours of operating experience toward their Minnesota Historical Boiler Operators License.
