On January 18, 2003 a meeting was held with approximately 70 interested parties to form a non-profit corporation, the membership of which is open to all who enjoy the operation of all kinds of steam and related vintage machinery.
Our mission and purpose of this corporation shall be for the education and preservation of steam traction engines and all kinds of vintage steam and related machinery, engineers, and the promotion of safety in the operation and management of traction engines and vintage engines and boilers.
In January of 2003 the state of Wisconsin added ultrasound testing to its boiler inspection requirements. Our organization has formed a legislative committee that is currently working with the state with positive results on how boiler inspections are to be carried out. Mike Wahl has been elected by the club to represent WHSEA at the NBIC (National Board Inspection Code) meetings.
We have also formed an education committee that has developed a steam school to educate those interested in the operation and maintenance of a steam engine.
Our first school was held in Oct. 2004, with 44 students and had a great deal of positive feedback. Through the years, the steam school has continued to thrive.
As an interested hobbyist we invite you to become a member of this association and share the opportunity to continue to enjoy the operation of steam engines in a safe and enjoyable fashion.
